Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to enjoy the Faire!  You’ll get a few perks too including a free NoVa Mini Maker Faire T-Shirt, on-site parking, and access to the Faire before and after public hours. It’s  a wonderful chance to meet the awesome Makers, socialize and make a difference!

There will be MANDATORY training for volunteers the day before the NoVa Mini Maker Faire on SATURDAY, March 14 at 2pm at the Langston Hughes Middle School.

We have a range of fun roles to fill to please Sign Up To Volunteer:

  • General  –  Help with setup, help makers at their exhibits, or help attendees find their way around the Faire.
  • Parking — 16 and up — help re-direct people to the appropriate parking area. This outside job will be the first public face of the Maker Faire people see — so you need to be friendly! Get an extra ticket if you’ll take on this duty for us!
  • Artistic Assistance — We need a few people to set up some art projects for us – we have the plan and materials; you have the vision to make it beautiful. FILLED!
  • Bike Valet — Help manage the bike parking. This job will be outside.
  • Registration/Checkin – Help makers and visitors quickly check in, get programs and go on their merry way! Like general volunteers, you should be comfortable with hustle and bustle while wearing a big smile!
  • Soldering– Soldering is a Maker Faire staple. Everyone who visits should learn how to solder (and get a cool badge)!. If you can solder please help out!
  • Photo/video – Capture all the excitement! We ask that you’ll upload your work to one of our accounts and allow us to use it for Faire related communications.  Ideally, you release it release it under a Creative Commons license.  We will always attribute you when your work is used! We are looking for someone to run a live-feed for the Faire this year. If you can do this, contact us directly at organizers@makerfairenova.com FILLED!
  • Nerdy Derby —  A no-rules version of the Pinewood Derby. Guaranteed to be fun!
  • Robotics Wranglers — We’ll have two robotics areas. Help us figure out the best way to situate and run them! FILLED!
  • Saturday Set-up — Help us out on Saturday, be free to enjoy the event on Sunday.  We need a few more people!

Volunteer Age Requirements:

  • Students 12-13 must have a parent or guardian volunteering with the student or be with an organized group such as Scouts.
  • Volunteers 14 and up may sign up on their own (but it’s always more fun with a friend).
